Stoke, a Love Story

From the flyover to Smallthorne roundabouts, from the ring road to Shelton Old Road, you think you know this city right?

You know it like the back of your hand, like the bottom of a Wedgwood cup or a crumbling potbank.

But something’s been waiting underneath.
All this time, buried deep, and it’s got a secret its finally ready to share...

Supported by National Lottery through Arts Council England, Stoke-on-Trent City Council , the National Lottery Community Fund, Unity Theatre Trust and Cllr Asman Ali. With thanks also to Longton Exchange, Longton Central Methodist Hall, Appetite, New Vic Theatre and Claybody Theatre.

One morning when a smog descends over Stoke-on-Trent and its roads start to crack, a stranger returns with a mission and another tries to leave, five residents find themselves stranded in an unknown place and discover in order to return they must face the most basic question: is their city worth saving.

A show for those that love the city, for those sometimes not sure, for those just arrived, for those born and bred. A love song to potbanks. To pits. To canals. To leaving the past. To seeking a future. To losing it all. To maybe winning it back.

Stoke, a Love Story was our fifth and biggest production to date and took place at Longton Central Methodist Hall, 18-28 September 2019.

Presented alongside Falling for A City.
